What Alder & Wolf Does

A Brief That Covers the Whole Arrangement

Alder & Wolf works across the ownership and taxation of substantial private wealth. We take responsibility for how that wealth is held, and for the way it interacts with the wider life of the family.

Where the Work Usually Starts

Our work often starts at the point where a once-simple arrangement has turned into something less legible. Over the years, further banks and entities have been added to the structure. Properties and operating interests arrive alongside them. Each addition was sensible at the time, but collectively they are harder to understand.

The client often has capable advisers already. What is missing is one office that can absorb the whole arrangement and work across it with authority.

Sectors

Alder & Wolf concentrates its private-asset work in three areas.

Real Estate

Residential and commercial property held directly or through entities, across several jurisdictions. We look at ownership form and financing terms, at the tax treatment, and at the practical administration the family is carrying.

Logistics and Supply Chain

Warehousing and transport infrastructure, whether held as an operating business or as asset-backed exposure. The work centres on how the operation is governed and where the cash actually arrives. We are also frank with clients about how much of their attention it will take.

Green Energy

Generation assets and transition infrastructure, together with the private holdings around them. We assess contracted revenue and counterparty strength, and we are candid where a position is, in practice, an operating business.

Tax Planning

Tax is the point at which structure meets family intention. We set out clearly how the wealth is taxed as it currently stands, and where the arrangement has drifted from its original purpose. We then set out what a more coherent position would look like.

We work alongside the client’s tax counsel and support the mandate they already hold. Our concern is that the planning holds together across the whole balance sheet.

Capabilities

  • Cross-border tax position review
  • Residence and domicile considerations
  • Holding structure review
  • Asset-holding tax treatment
  • Coordination with tax counsel
  • Compliance oversight

Management of Commercial Matters, Trusts and Art

Ownership creates work. Alder & Wolf holds that brief.

Commercial Matters

Oversight of operating interests and the contractual relationships around them. That covers the board and reporting rhythm, and the administrative discipline that keeps a private holding properly run.

Trusts and Structures

Working with trustees so that trust and entity arrangements remain fit for purpose, and are understood by the people they were created for.

Art and Collections

Administration of collections as assets in their own right. That means valuation cycles and insurance, movement between jurisdictions, and a clear place within the wider structure.

Capabilities

  • Operating interest oversight
  • Trustee coordination
  • Entity maintenance
  • Contract administration
  • Art registry and valuation
  • Collection storage and transport

Concierge and Philanthropy

Concierge

The private side of substantial wealth carries its own administrative weight. Alder & Wolf coordinates household and property matters, travel arrangements, relocation logistics, education planning, staffing, and the advisers and service providers involved.

We also plan and organise special events, from private family occasions to more formal gatherings. The work is handled discreetly, with careful attention to detail and to the practical demands around each occasion.

Philanthropy

We help clients give with intent and with structure behind it. That means defining the purpose and choosing the right vehicle, setting a standard for what success looks like, and then reporting against it honestly.

Alder & Wolf is particularly interested in initiatives that strengthen individual freedom and accountable public institutions. This can include work supporting civil liberties, freedom of expression, access to justice, independent journalism, governmental transparency and the quality of public life. We help clients develop focused programmes, select credible partners and maintain oversight as the work progresses. Funding is reviewed against clear objectives and with attention to how it is being used.

Capabilities

  • Household and travel coordination
  • Education and relocation arrangements
  • Staffing and service providers
  • Philanthropic strategy
  • Foundation and charitable structures
  • Grant partner due diligence
  • Open-society and public-interest initiative design
  • Impact reporting

Consolidated Reporting and Balance-Sheet Intelligence

Excellent reporting from several institutions can leave the whole picture obscure. We pull information from across the client’s arrangements and organise it for decision-makers. It shows what is owned, and where the pressure is beginning to appear.

Capabilities

  • Cross-institution consolidation
  • Entity-level reporting review
  • Cost and fee mapping
  • Cash-flow visibility
  • Net exposure analysis
  • Performance interpretation

Next-Generation Preparation

Many families want younger members to be better prepared for ownership before responsibility is transferred. Preparation usually combines education with early involvement in real conversations. The purpose is to make later responsibilities feel understood by the time they arrive.

Capabilities

  • Next-generation education planning
  • Meeting participation design
  • Exposure to ownership decisions
  • Philanthropic involvement

Succession, Transition and Moments of Change

Some of the most important family office work happens when something has shifted. A business sale, a death in the family, a relocation, a generational handover, or a large new inflow of liquidity. These moments place unusual strain on existing arrangements. Alder & Wolf helps clients slow the process where needed and bring the right people together so decisions still make sense once the pressure has eased.

Capabilities

  • Post-liquidity event planning
  • Succession preparation
  • Generational transition
  • Ownership restructuring
  • Relocation coordination

One Office with a Wide Enough Brief

The point of Alder & Wolf is to give substantial wealth one office. It consolidates the work that already exists across tax and ownership structures, across the specialist advisers involved, and across the family demands that sit around them.
