Senior Fixed Income Economist
Specialised in bonds
Overview
The Senior Fixed Income Economist will lead Alder & Wolf’s view on interest rates and credit conditions, and translate that view into practical guidance for the office. Bond market specialisation is essential. The role suits an experienced economist who wants their work used directly in decisions, and who is comfortable being the senior voice on rates in a small Zurich office.
Responsibilities
- Own the office’s macroeconomic and fixed income view across developed markets, with particular focus on rates and credit spreads.
- Advise on bond exposure held directly and through external mandates, with attention to duration and to issuer concentration.
- Assess the financing environment relevant to the office’s sector work, including project and asset-backed debt.
- Monitor central bank policy and sovereign issuance, and set out clearly what shifting liquidity conditions mean for the family’s arrangements.
- Prepare concise written views for principals and senior colleagues, from short notes through to full position papers.
- Contribute to periodic reviews of the balance sheet, with attention to refinancing risk and to the timing of cash.
- Work alongside external managers and the banks around them, and hold their fixed income views to a proper standard.
Requirements
- 8+ years’ experience as an economist or strategist with a clear fixed income specialisation, gained at an asset manager, a bank, a central bank or a family office.
- Deep working knowledge of bond markets, covering government and corporate credit as well as the mechanics of pricing and settlement.
- Advanced degree in economics or a closely related discipline.
- Strong quantitative capability alongside genuine judgement about what the numbers actually support.
- Excellent written communication, with the ability to hold a clear view and defend it under challenge.
- Comfortable in a small, senior team where the work is applied.
- Strong professional English, spoken and written.
- Zurich based or willing to relocate. Additional European languages are welcome.
